Ngorongoro
Ngorongoro sits on the northern circuit road between Karatu and the Serengeti, making it a natural link between Lake Manyara or Tarangire on one side and the Serengeti on the other. Most visitors enter through Lodoare Gate, spend a night at a lodge on the crater rim, and descend to the crater floor at dawn for the best light and coolest game viewing before the day's heat sets in.
Only four-wheel-drive vehicles are permitted onto the crater floor itself, and walking safaris aren't allowed there — though guided walks are permitted on the rim and in other parts of the conservation area, including around Ndutu and Olduvai.
