Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest national parks and wildlife havens, is located in the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania. This park, named in honor of Tanzania’s first president, the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, also commemorates the legacy of explorer Fredrick Courtney Selous, who met his end along the River Rufiji.
Established by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) in 2019, The National Park encompasses an impressive area of 30,893 square kilometers, with the mighty River Rufiji flowing through it.
The park welcomes visitors year-round, but the prime time for wildlife viewing is from July to October. During these months, the vegetation is less dense, and the River Rufiji becomes a bustling hub for animals and birds, offering exceptional sightings
Home to an array of wildlife, Nyerere National Park is a sanctuary for elephants, cape buffaloes, lions, hippos, leopards, wild dogs, zebras, the elegant sable antelope, giraffes, hyenas, wildebeest, gazelles, and much more.
Bird lovers will be enthralled with over 400 species recorded in the park, including the majestic African fish eagles, vibrant Malachite Kingfishers, graceful African Skimmers, and Bohm’s Bee-eaters. The park’s landscape is a picturesque blend of Savannah grasslands and Miombo woodlands, creating a diverse habitat for its inhabitants.
Serengeti National Park is not just a destination; it’s an experience that captures the essence of the wild, offering an adventure that stays with you long after your journey ends.
