Arusha National Park is a hidden gem located just a short drive from the bustling city of Arusha in northern Tanzania. The park is known for its remarkably diverse landscapes, from lush rainforest to open savannah, all nestled beneath the towering Mount Meru. Although smaller than many of Tanzania’s national parks, Arusha offers a wide range of experiences, including game drives, walking safaris, and canoeing, making it perfect for a day trip or a short wildlife excursion.
One of the key attractions in the park is the Momella Lakes, a series of shallow, alkaline lakes where thousands of flamingos can be seen feeding, along with a variety of waterfowl. The park is also home to the scenic Ngurdoto Crater, often referred to as “Little Ngorongoro,” which boasts stunning views and is rich in wildlife such as buffaloes, warthogs, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Visitors can also enjoy sightings of giraffes, zebras, and the occasional elephants, along with the park’s unique and diverse birdlife.
